Sandra "Sandi" Whitley

Sandra “Sandi” Sims Whitley, 66, passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 in McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe, after a 15 month illness. Sandi maintained her strong independence up to the end. She is a child of God and is now with her maker. She was born in Union County, NC on November 28, 1949 daughter of the late Billy and Madeline Newell Sims. Sandi was also preceded in death by beloved sister-in-law, Margaret Sims, who is now holding her hand. Sandi was a graduate of Parkwood High School and was employed with the Mecklenburg County Clerk of Court for 29 years. She enjoyed reading, movies, exercising and guitar music. Sandi is survived by brothers, Bill Sims and wife Elaine, Larry Sims and Rick Sims and wife Belinda all of Monroe, sisters, Sherry Sims Springs of Waxhaw and Jerrie Lynn Winchester and husband Jerry of Monroe. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Kevin Winchester and Staci Winchester of Mineral Springs, Mark Winchester of Nolansville, TN, Daphne Sims of Waxhaw, Mitzi Sims and Lana Funderburke of Monroe, Keith Sims of Mineral Springs, Amy Sims Gregory of Osprey, Fl., Melissa Sims of Chapel Hill, Jason Springs and Leigh Springs, both of Charlotte. She was much loved by 4 of her great nephews, Evan and Cason Starnes and Harrison and Carson Springs. She is also survived by her beloved cats, Gracesen and Colby. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 4:00 PM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel. Sandi is, and always will be, in our hearts.
