Sarah Ellen Ross

Sarah Ross, 89, passed away February 27, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Bertha Caudle Griffin; her husband, Hoover Ross; and brothers Frederick Griffin and Robert Griffin. Sarah is survived by her daughters, Sharon (David) Johnson of Marshville and Brenda (Mike) Peters of Charlotte; brother Francis (Bobbie) Griffin of Monroe; sisters-in-law Frances Griffin and Betty Griffin; granddaughter Celena (Jake) Davis; great-granddaughter Harper Davis; and numerous nieces, nephews and “chosen” family members. Soon after Sarah and Hoover returned from Fort Sill, Oklahoma, they bought the farm where they spent the rest of their days. Sundays found them at Marshville Methodist Church. Weekdays were busy with work, farming, gardening, canning, sewing, children, family and friends. For nineteen years, a visit to Security Bank in downtown Monroe might include a quick chat with Sarah. Lifelong friendships quickly grew with both coworkers and clients. In 1982, Sarah left banking to work as a legal assistant for the Twentieth Prosecutorial District. For the next fifteen years, she traveled the District’s five counties, Union, Anson, Richmond, Stanly and Moore, supporting the work of the district attorneys. She retired from the Twentieth District in 1997. Sarah and Hoover enjoyed traveling and saw much of the United States over the following years. Many trips were planned around visit to friends and family members spread far and wide. They went on several tours with the Stanly County Cattleman’s Association. Two of their favorite traveling companions were Bill and Lib Walters. At 12:30 PM on Saturday, March 5, the family will gather informally for friends to drop by at Marshville United Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall, 310 Ross Street in Marshville. Sarah’s Celebration of Life will follow at 2PM in the sanctuary. Interment will be at the Marshville City Cemetery. Memorials may be made/sent to MUMC, P O Box 427, Marshville, NC 28103.
