Shelby Gayle Ledbetter Tower, 67, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and deep devotion to her family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church, 3619 Morgan Mill Rd, Monroe, NC 28110. A reception will follow the service in the Church Dining Room.

Gayle was born on January 7, 1959, in Monroe, North Carolina, to Shelby Simpson Ledbetter Rash and the late Aaron Keith Ledbetter. She spent her early years in Monroe before attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied cytology and began shaping a life marked by curiosity, determination, and care for others.

An avid cyclist and true lover of the outdoors, Gayle found joy and peace in nature. She loved hiking, gardening, cross-country skiing, and climbing mountains, always embracing the challenge and beauty of the world around her. Whether on a trail or at home, she approached life with energy and appreciation for each moment.

Above all else, Gayle cherished her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Devin Tower; her children, Lindsay Talamilla (Erick) and Matthew Tower (Jenessa); and her beloved grandchildren, Isla Talamilla, River Talamilla, and Ella Tower. She is also survived by her mother, Shelby Simpson Ledbetter Rash (Phil) and predeceased by her father, Aaron Keith Ledbetter.

Gayle most enjoyed time spent with her family and friends—sharing laughter, stories, and the simple moments that meant the most to her. Her warmth, adventurous spirit, unwavering love and a deep faith in God will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
