Shirley Jane (Newsome) Griffin

Shirley Jane Newsome Griffin, of Monroe went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Hillcrest Baptist Church Rest Home where she resided. She was born on June 27, 1933 in Union County to the late George and Nancy Jane Newsome. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, J.B. Newsome, Grover Newsome and a sister Kathleen Newsome. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and family prior to the service from 1:30 pm until 2:45 pm. Shirley was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family and really enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren growing up. She cherished family gatherings. Shirley enjoyed attending her church and senior citizens luncheons. Shirley is survived by her daughters Jane Griffin and husband Terry, and Janet Fowler and husband Andy; son Dennis Griffin and wife Sandy; four grandchildren, Amanda Little and husband Christopher, Adam Griffin, Valerie Page and husband Scotty, Amy Shelton and Danielle Nasti; nine great-grandchildren, Kaden and KynLee Griffin, Kamryn Little, Micah Peck, Dylan and Madison Harbert, Bryson, Brystol and Brynley Page; one great-granddaughter Sophie Peck; two sisters, Dorothy Mullis and Georgia Witmore both of Monroe. The family wishes to thank the staff of Hillcrest Baptist Church Rest Home and Hospice of Union County for their care of their mother and grandmother.
