Shirley Belk Starnes, age 89 of Monroe, beloved wife of 65 years to the late Jeff Davis, passed away Saturday January 11, 2025. Born in Union County on August 6, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Carl Clayton and Myrtle Yarborough Belk.
A graveside service will be held Friday, January 17, 2025, 1:00 PM at Prospect Southern Methodist Church Cemetery, 6020 Prospect Rd., Monroe, with Pastor Charles Hines to officiate
Shirley was a very devout Christian who loved her Lord with all of her heart. Always a kind and gentle spirit, she never met a stranger. She was an active member of Prospect United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She loved spending time with family and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by 7 nieces; Judy Medlin(Kenneth), Shelia Medlin(Ronnie), Bonnie Rice, Wanda Knight(Danny), Lisa Brower(David), Denise Long(Robbie) and Ann Gaston.;8 nephews, Josef Pennigar(Kathy), Tim Belk, Charles Belk(Donna), Sonny Belk, Richard Belk(Marsha), Kevin Belk(Tammy), Dennis Robinson(Debbie) and Russell Ott. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Hampton Ott, sister-in-law, Betty Jim Belk, and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations my be sent to Council on Aging in Union County, 1401 Skyway Dr., Monroe, NC 28110.
