Simeon Kenneth Couick

Mr. Simeon Kenneth Couick, age 81, of Waxhaw, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends. Funeral services are being conducted on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 3:00 PM in Mary Elizabeth Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Curtis Laney, Rev. Richard Johnson and Mr. Greg Couick. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. Mr. Couick was born on December 19, 1933 in Union County, North Carolina, son of the late Marion Odell Couick and Margaret Odessa Couick. He was a lineman for the former GTE for 35 years and more importantly, a very gifted “jack of all trades”. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and gardening after retirement. He served as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School director at Mary Elizabeth Baptist Church Mr. Couick will again be joined with his wife, Connie M. Couick of 56 years, who preceded him in death on September 9, 2007. Survivors include his daughter, Janet Couick of Waxhaw; three sons, Tony Couick of Waxhaw, Kevin Couick and wife Jill Ellis-Belk of Monroe, Greg Couick and wife Sheila of Monroe; six grandchildren, Chris Manus and wife Jennifer, Corey Manus, Kacie Couick, Kayla Couick, Dustin Couick and wife Christy of Waxhaw and the late Shon Couick; six great-grandchildren, Damien Jackson, Dakota Manus, Kaylee Couick, Victoria Manus, Nevaeh Couick and Aniyah Lindsay; three sisters, Margaret Blackmon and husband Ned of Lancaster, SC; Shirley Turner and husband Steve of Indian Trail, Ruth Horne and husband Dale of Heath Springs, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mary Elizabeth Baptist Church, 3703 Mary Elizabeth Church Rd., Waxhaw, NC 28173.
