Sonny Jameson Rains passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. He was born in Mecklenburg County on January 16, 2026, son to Connor Jameson Rains and Maggie Victoria Rains. He is also preceded in death by his aunt, Kailey Rains.

A funeral service to honor Sonny will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Lee Park Church, 2491 Morgan Mill Rd, Monroe, NC 28110, with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park.

Sonny is survived by his maternal grandparents, Floyd Smith (Sandra), paternal grandparents, Phil Rains (Leigh), four uncles, Brandon Rains (April), Tyler Rains (Megan), Maxx Smith (Sarah), Evan Smith (Ashley), aunt, Chelsey Hardison (Derek), great-grandparents, Linda Witmore, Margie Smith, and numerous cousins.

Sonny was a miracle child, being born at only 23 weeks. Though his time on Earth was far too short, Sonny was such a blessing and filled his parents’ lives with immeasurable love, joy, and precious memories that will remain in their hearts forever. Every moment spent with him was a gift.
