Starlette Banks Mccollum

Dateline: Monroe, NC Starlette Banks McCollum, 62, went to be with her Lord and Savior after a lengthy battle with cancer on Tuesday morning, February 12, 2013 at Levine Dixon Hospice House, Southminster in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born on January 11, 1951 in Waynesville, North Carolina to the late Francis and Wiley George Banks, Sr. and grew up in Asheville, North Carolina. She graduated from Lee H Edwards High School, Asheville, NC and Western Carolina University in 1973, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She taught at Unionville Elementary School from 1973 until she retired in 2003. In retirement, she enjoyed quilting and spending time with the family and friends. Funeral services in her honor will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 3:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 PM prior to the funeral. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, William E. McCollum of Monroe, daughters, Alison Dianne McCollum of Wilmington and Laura Elaine McCollum Epperson and husband Sean of Monroe. Her first grandchild is expected in May. Starlette is also survived by her brother, Wiley George Banks, Jr. and wife Becky of Morganton; her sister, Bridgette Marcinkoski and husband Ray of Lake Worth, Fla.; sister, Linda McConnell of Evergreen, CO; and sister, Amy Voehringer and husband Steven of Golden, CO and several nieces and nephews.
