Stephen Gaylord Andrews, 76, of Waxhaw, NC passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. He was born in Marquette, MI, on March 12, 1949, son to the late John Gaylord Andrews and Florence Nelsen Andrews.

A memorial service will be held in Michigan this summer.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Kathleen Holtman Andrews and their children, Jennifer Chen (Wayne), Megan Sanchez (David), and David Andrews (Laura) as well as seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, John, and is survived by his brother, Harley Andrews (Cheryl).

He was raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life. Steve was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan and Detroit College of Law. He had a 30-year career as a Trademark and Copyright attorney for Dow Chemical Company while living in Midland, Michigan. Beyond his professional life, Steve was a lover of classical music, an avid reader, cribbage player and a lifelong nature enthusiast. He especially cherished the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Lake Independence, where he spent many hours fishing and boating. In 2008, Steve and his wife moved to Waxhaw, North Carolina. He expressed his belief in Jesus a week before he died, so we have great peace that he is with Jesus now. Jennifer, Megan and David were all here for five days to say goodbye. It was God’s blessing to have this special time as a family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve’s memory to the Charlotte Rescue Mission or WDAV public radio station in Charlotte.
