It is with great sorrow, we announce Steven Joseph Spurlock, 66, met Jesus Saturday, August 29, 2026 after a brief illness to cancer. He was born February 2, 1960 in Dayton, Ohio, son of Dolores Spurlock and the late Herb Spurlock. He is also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Mia Cochran.
Throughout his battle, his faith never wavered. He was a loving and faithful husband and dedicated father; never missing a dance event or milestone in his girls’ lives. Steve retired from Union Power as a Journeyman lineman of 35 years, a very precise and strenuous position. He was such a joy to spend time with. He never met a stranger and almost always walked away with a new friend. He had a witty personality and made people feel relaxed, welcomed and special. Everyone loved Steve—especially children. After Steve retired, he poured his heart and soul into his grandkids. Most importantly, Steve was known for sharing his faith in his Saviour, Jesus Christ, with everyone he met. He found no apprehension of seeking people out, living out I Peter 3:15. His spiritual gift of servanthood shone brightly through his 37 years of service at Antioch Baptist Church. Steve truly made a difference in the world, as he participated in several local and foreign mission trips.
Steve is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Anita Williams Spurlock; daughters, Megan Lee (Andrew) and Anna Cochran (Tyler); grandchildren, Hallie Cochran, Allister Lee and Caroline Cochran; his mother, Dolores Spurlock; sister, Pam Thomas (Mitchell); and mother-in-law, Jean Tarlton.
