Sylvia Ann Gibson

Sylvia “Sue” Gordon Gibson, 89, of Monroe, NC passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021. Sue was born in Union County on May 7, 1931, daughter to the late Albert Steve Gordon and Verla Connie Helms Gordon. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Martin Gibson; brothers, Rondall Gordon, Jimmy Gordon, Albert Gordon and sister, Phyllis Baker. A service to honor Sue’s life will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Grace Baptist Church. The family will receive friends and relatives following the service. The burial will be held at 10:00 am Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Lakeland Memorial Park. Sue was a savvy businesswoman, who had done everything from building homes with her husband to owning her own beauty salon. Most recently, Sue was the proud co-owner of Dar-Lynn’s bridal. Sue owned and worked at Dar-Lynn’s for 36 years alongside her sister Libby. Sue was proud of the legacy of Dar-Lynn’s and that it employed so many women in her family at one point or another. Sue loved her family. She spent her life dedicated to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook Sunday lunches and spend the afternoon with family. She loved playing games, watching Tar-Heel basketball and going shopping with her family. She loved to host the entire Gordon family for holidays, where her house would be filled to the brim with family. It never failed that during these gatherings, Sue got the whole family singing hymns and Christmas songs. Mostly, Sue loved Jesus. She was a dedicated member of Grace Baptist Church for over 25 years, and one of her last requests was to make it to church one more time. She served the Lord faithfully for 89 years, and it was her most fervent prayer that her family would do the same. Sue is now in Heaven singing with Jesus and the many loved ones who went before her.” Sue is survived by her loving children, Danny Martin Gibson (Sarah); Robin Waldron; Pamela Funderburk (Steve): Tamela Mayor (Nelson) and sister, Libby Adams (Johnny). Grandchildren, Shanda Gibson; Danny (Bubba) Gibson, Jr. (Ashley); Andrew Jordan (Jessica); Ashley McBride (Nolan); Bailey Funderburk; Wesley Funderburk; Alyson Jordan and Abigail Jordan. Great Grandchildren, Ava Gibson; Kellan Gibson; Harper Gibson; Paisley Funderburk; Shepard Jordan; Weston Jordan; Merritt McBride and Ever McBride.
