CHARLOTTE- After 68 adventurous years, Ted Augustus Johnson of Charlotte, “went out with his boots on” October 14, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center Main. Ted was born April 30, 1945 in Charlotte, the son of the late Houston Perry and Pauline Inez Senter Johnson, both of Charlotte. Ted was a 1963 graduate of Harding High School and went on to receive his masters at East Tennessee State University. Ted had a successful sales career in the textile industry for Taylor Salt and Chemical (1974-2000) and was owner of TAJ Chemicals, a broker with ACME Southern, Inc. (2000-present). After almost 40 years in sales, he had no “customers”, just friends. But he is most remembered by his bigger-than-life true stories. If he wasn’t reminiscing about his youth, he was sharing the highlights of his son’s college football careers at Notre Dame and The University of Georgia, or his precious daughter’s successes in the Design School at North Carolina State University. His favorite setting to share his stories was on the golf course where he was nick-named “Puff”, but he was also a cowboy at heart and truly enjoyed the peaceful pastures while riding his horses. He is survived by his much loved wife of 43 years, Joyce . Along with Joyce those who will miss him most are his three children: Lance Houston Johnson and wife Jennifer Lee of Charlotte; Travis Barry Johnson and wife Blaire Emery of Charleston, SC; Adrienne Johnson Bailey and husband Max of Charlotte, NC; and his seven grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as “Pop”: Case Sanders Johnson, Brayes Houston Johnson, Logan James Johnson, Ty Houston Johnson, Emery Elizabeth Johnson, Riggs Asher Johnson, Rhys Martin Bailey, and his loyal and cherished, Goldendoodle: Jake. The only thing Ted loved more than his family was his Lord. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 3:00 PM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, and will be officiated by Father Mark Lawlor. To honor Ted’s wishes, a cookie and punch reception will follow the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. Serving the family of Ted Johnson is Gordon Funeral Service of Monroe, NC. Online condolences may be made at www.gordonfuneralservice.com. The family would like to sincerely thank the trauma staff at Carolina Medicals Center for their tremendous loving care and service.
