Obituary

Tena Benton Deese, 63, of Indian Trail, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026, following a difficult battle with cancer.

Born on November 28, 1962, Tena was a strong, loving, generous, and kind woman whose greatest joy in life was her family. She attended South Piedmont Community College and dedicated much of her career to working in the healthcare field, where her caring nature touched the lives of many.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery.

Tena was a woman who gave freely of herself to the people she loved. She had a selfless nature and a generous heart, always putting the needs of others before her own. But above all else, Tena loved her children and grandchildren more than anything in this world. They were her greatest pride and joy.

When Tena wasn’t working, you could almost always find her doing one of two things: working in her yard or playing with her grandchildren. She found happiness in the simple moments-being outside, caring for her home, and making memories with the people she loved most. Her grandchildren knew how deeply they were loved, and they will carry that love with them for the rest of their lives.

Tena was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Deese, her father, Charles Benton and brother-in-law, Mark Fowler.

She leaves behind her children, Bobby Deese and his wife, Gabby, and Brooke Schulz and her husband, Brian; and her grandchildren, Oliver, Liam, Caroline, and Emma. She is also survived by her mother, Ellen Benton; her brother, Chuck Benton and his wife, Wendy; and her sister, Carmen Fowler. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her dearly.

Tena’s life was defined by the love she gave so freely. Her kindness, strength, generosity, and unwavering love for her family will never be forgotten. Though her time with us was far too short, the love she poured into her children and grandchildren will live on through them for generations to come.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
