Thomas Leonard Crooke

May 9, 1939 — August 14, 2014

Thomas Leonard Crooke Sr, 75, of Wingate passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014. Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, role model, and member of our community. He was a man who built his life around being of service to others, whether through his passionate efforts in education with the Union County Board of Education and South Piedmont Community College, re-building houses with Habitat For Humanity in the hurricane ravaged Gulf states, or working on a simple project in his shop with his grandchildren. Over the years, he was also an ardent supporter of athletics at Forest Hills High School and Wingate University. The family will remember Tom in a private service. However, open visitation for all friends and neighbors will take place on Tuesday August 19, 2014 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at the Wingate Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, to remember and honor Tom, contributions can be made in his name directly to Habitat for Humanity, or to The Tom Crooke Opportunity Scholarship for aspiring college students by contacting the South Piedmont Community College President's office. Tom is survived by his Frances, sons Tom Jr and John, grandchildren David, Daniel, Mary Katherine, Anne Marie, and Isla, and his two sisters Billie and Kay. He will be deeply missed. Gordon Funeral Service Crematory is caring for the Crooke family.
