Thomas Edward Tom Pomfrey, Jr., 83, of Monroe, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017. He was born September 8, 1933, in Brentwood, NY, to the late Thomas E. Pomfrey, Sr. and Theresa Galts Pomfrey. Mr. Pomfrey was a graduate of Bay Shore High School and served his country from 1953-1955, during the Korean Conflict. He held numerous positions with the Town of Islip, from which he retired after more than 30 years of service. Mr. Pomfrey was a longtime volunteer fireman and was recognized after many years of service as the Honorary Chief of East Brentwood Fire Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol May Pomfrey. He his survived by his children, Barbara Antonucci and husband, Patrick, Tom Pomfrey and wife, Vanessa, and Carol Rennie and husband, Steve, all of Monroe; grandchildren, Robyn, Michael, Meredith, Colleen, Robert, and Bryan; great-grandson, Matthew; and his constant feline companion, Herman. The family will visit with friends and relatives from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, January 20, 2017, at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 21, 2017, in Turner Presbyterian Church, followed by burial in the church cemetery.
