Thomas Edward Steele, 67, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Levine Dickson Hospice House - Southminster. Tommy was born January 13, 1950 a son of Mary Sybil Austin Steele and the late H. Kenneth Steele. He is preceded in death by a sister, Staci Hunt, nephew, Wes Page, brother in-law David Ford, and a sister in-law Susan Steele. Funeral services for Tommy will be 3:00PM Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Central United Methodist Church, 801 S Hayne St, Monroe, NC 28112. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30PM to 2:45PM in Central Hall. A lifelong Union County resident, Tommy was a business owner, a forty year volunteer for the Babe Ruth Baseball League, and a thirty year volunteer for Piedmont and Porter Ridge High School Athletics. He was recently inducted into the Southeast Regional Baseball Hall of Fame for his years of service. In addition to his mother, Tommy is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sharon Shirley Steele, two sons, Harry Walker Steele and his wife Ellen of Monroe, James Austin Steele and his wife Sarah of Charlotte, a brother, James Graham Steele of Monroe, two sisters, Harriet Page and her husband Link of Knightdale, NC,and Barbara Ford of Myrtle Beach, SC, two grandchildren, Caleb and Ethan Steele, brother in-law, Kenny Hunt, sister in-law, Janis Griffin, and several nieces and nephews.
