Thomas Jerry Taylor

December 16, 1949 — January 9, 2024

Thomas Jerry Taylor, 74, of Monroe, NC slipped away peacefully to be with his Savior on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. He was born in Anson County, NC on December 16, 1949, son to the late David Taylor and Louise Broadaway Taylor.


A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 2301 N. Rocky River Road, Monroe, NC 28110 with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM in the church sanctuary.


Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Jerrie Bailey Taylor, loving daughter Wendy Lane, husband Joe; two brothers, Joel Taylor, wife Betty Jean, Dink Taylor, wife Judy; very special grandson, Daniel Lane; very special twin granddaughters, Elizabeth Lane and Emily Lane; sister-in-law, Kathy Huntley, husband Ed; as well as several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.


Jerry spent many years as a high school teacher and coach, serving locally at Sun Valley High School in Indian Trail. He then moved into fundraising and sales, where he spent many years serving school systems in the Carolinas. He retired from FSI office in 2015. After retirement, Jerry enjoyed working on restoring classic cars. His passion was coaching young men in little league baseball. He coached his grandson’s teams at Indian Trail Athletic Association and Piedmont Parks and Recreation. Jerry especially enjoyed teaching the young boys the basics and encouraging them to focus on doing their best and having fun.


In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Shiloh Baptist Church Youth/Children’s Department, 2301 N. Rocky River Road, Monroe, NC 28110, or Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd, Monroe, NC 28112, or The George F. Whitfield Baseball Clinic, George F. Whitfield, Director, 216 Hardingwood Dr., Goldsboro, NC 27534.
