Timothy Scott Buchanan, Sr. (Tim), Christian, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and gifted artisan was called home to Heaven on August 1, 2023, at the age of 78.
An “Anniversary Party, Celebration of Life & Memorial Service” will be held on Tim and Elaine’s 59th anniversary on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 6:00 PM at Secrest Grove Baptist Church, 4505 Weddington Road, Monroe, NC 28110.
Born in 1944 to Jim and Iola Buchanan, Tim was the second of four children and is survived by all three of his siblings: Nathan (Becky) Buchanan, Joy (Eddie) Millis, and Paul (Trish) Buchanan. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine Bass Buchanan, whom he married in 1964 and with whom he enjoyed 55 years of marriage prior to her death in 2019. That union brought forth three children: Aimee (John) Kenney, Scott (Sally) Buchanan, and Amorette (Robert) Lilley. Then came the grandchildren (Danielle, Kathryn, Jessica, Julia, Chelsea, Lacey, Caitlyn, Nicholas & Alyssa) and the great-grandchildren (now up to seven and one on the way). Tim loved his family more than anything else on Earth, and he made sacrifices throughout his life on their behalf. His response when one of his grandkids would say, “I love you” was more often than not, “I love you more.” He did.
Tim had numerous hobbies (golf, boating, woodworking, etc.), but his passion and his craft was the fine art of jewelry engraving by hand. He initially learned the trade from his father, Jim, a well known and much-respected jewelry engraver in Charlotte, but he soon developed his own bold style and built a reputation far and wide. That reputation and the fine work he produced brought demand for his services from all over the country and eventually internationally. His specialty was family coat of arms signet rings, but he once engraved pieces for a Saudi prince and even the NHL Championship Stanley Cup. And Tim wasn’t stingy about passing along what he’d learned. He taught classes at a local college and gave private lessons as well. He wanted hand engraving to live on, and so it will.
You might say Tim made and left his mark on the world, but the most indelible impression was undoubtedly on his children and the rest of his progeny. We will all miss him greatly.
An “Anniversary Party, Celebration of Life & Memorial Service” will be held on Tim and Elaine’s 59th anniversary Friday, September 1, 2023. Details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC. They took such good care of Tim there, and we’re so very grateful.
