Troy Lee Purser Jr.

Troy Lee Purser Jr., 88 of Monroe, NC passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025. He left this world peacefully to join his heavenly home after a long and courageous battle with health issues. He was born in Union County, NC to the late Troy Lee Purser Sr., and Marie Smith Purser. He was predeceased by his daughter Peggy Purser Moyer, son Scott Lee Purser, brother John Huey Purser and sister Frances Nance Gordon.

Troy was a beloved figure in his community, cherished for his warmth and storytelling. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, always bringing a new story to share. Prior to his 35-year career as a logger and Perdue poultry grower, Troy worked at Charlotte Pipe Foundry, where he made lifelong friends.

An avid outdoorsman, Troy could often be found in his garden, fishing, on the tractor or collecting old bottles. His love for connection extended to daily visits with friends at the local store, where laughter and camaraderie thrived. On weekends, he enjoyed playing cards with other couples and shared many joyful moments square dancing with his wife, Joyce.

Troy was also dedicated to serving his community, delivering Meals on Wheels every Friday for 18 years. He was a willing servant always offering to help anyone who needed assistance. His generous spirit and love for his family, friends, and neighbors will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Troy is survived by his wife of 70 years Joyce Horne Purser, caregiver and loving daughter Troyanne Funderburk and husband Melvin, son-in-law Tom Moyer (Robin Cole), daughter-in-law Kathy Purser, six grandchildren Matthew Moyer (Sherry), Wesley Moyer (Lauren), Kristen Thomas (Trey), Olivia, Landon and Farrah Funderburk; four great grandchildren Ryan, Gracie, Hope and Isaac Moyer.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, March 1st at New Hope Baptist Church 5928 New Salem Rd Marshville, NC 28103 with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 2:15 pm in the church fellowship hall.
