Troy Gene Smith, 79, of Monroe, NC passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026. He was born in Auburn, AL, on August 9, 1947, son to the late Iverson Troy Smith and Vera Tomlin Smith.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 6907 Gus Eubanks Rd, Monroe, NC 28112.

Troy was a lover of antiques and furniture restoration. His favorite hobby was deer hunting in his home state of Alabama with his son and family.

Troy began his career as a police officer in Auburn, Alabama. He spent his most fulfilling working years at Brown Creek Correctional Facility in Wadesboro, NC, where he made lifelong friends. Troy retired from working security at Atrium Union Hospital.

Troy is survived by his loving wife, Sherrie McRorie Smith, son, Patrick Gene Smith (Tabatha), two daughters, Jamie Smith, Ashley Mangum Trent (Jacksen), four grandchildren, McCall Smith Ware (Hagen), Dalton Smith, Jax Trent, Knox Trent, great-grandchild, Harlen Ware, as well as his beloved dog, Haley.
