Vaughn Richard Lemmond of Monroe, NC, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021, after a short illness. He was born in Monroe on April 7, 1927, to Lula Mae McGinnis Lemmond and Walter Franklin Lemmond. He was the youngest and last survivor of nine children, seven sons and two daughters.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, Tuesday, May 25, 2021 in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112. Burial to follow in Monroe City Cemetery. The Lemmond family will receive friends and family prior to the service at 10:00AM until 10:45AM, at Gordon Funeral Service.
Vaughn was a retired school teacher and social worker for Volusia County Schools in Florida for over 35 years. After retirement he relocated back to Monroe. He was a loyal and dedicated friend to all who knew him. His passions included family, music, football and most importantly, bowling.
In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his son Vaughn Richard Lemmond Jr., and his first wife Love Louise Owens Lemmond. Left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife;
Virginia McCauley Austin Lemmond, his children, Carol Lemmond Atnip (Gilbert), Patricia Lemmond White (William), Teresa Austin (Eric Kindrick), William Austin (Blair), and grandchildren, Richard Atnip, Allison Atnip (James Stone), Love Larissa White (Jonny Logrono) and Wyatt Austin.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
