Vera Lucille (Privette) Strawn

Vera Lucille Privette Strawn, 89, passed away Friday, December 25, 2015. She was born June 14, 1926 in Union County, daughter to the late Brady Abb Mary Belle Nash Privette. She is also preceded in death by her husband Wesley Jefferson Strawn, a son Allen Strawn, a daughter Joyce Maye, two brothers Ted Privette and Bud Privette, two sisters, Joann Courtney and Betty Purser. A member of New Salem Baptist Church, Mrs. Strawn was active in various phases of the church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, growing flowers, and being around others. She was dearly loved and will be missed by many. She set the standard on how to treat people and as a strong Christian lady, she lead God's example, finding good in everyone. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015, at 11:00 AM at New Salem Baptist Church, 2915 Goldmine Road, Monroe, NC 28110. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. Mrs. Strawn is survived by three sons Larry Strawn, wife Marsha of Matthews, Roger Strawn of Monroe, Lynn Strawn, wife Chris of Waxhaw, two daughters, Janice Helms, husband Adam of Monroe, Karen Ashman, husband Rick of Monroe, son-in-law Tony Maye of Wingate, a sister Linda Simpson of Monroe, and her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. The family will visit with friends and family Sunday evening, December 27, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Salem Baptist Chuch-Building Fund, 2915 Goldmine Rd, Monroe, NC 28110, or Hospice and Palliative Care-Charlotte Region, 1420 E.
