Verna Lee (Starnes) Funderburk

Verna Lee Starnes Funderburk, 75, of Monroe, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday July 17, 2018. She was born June 23,1943 in Union County, NC, daughter to the late Amon Heath and Lela Walden Starnes. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Joe David Funderburk and brother, Andrew Dale Starnes. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. Verna is survived by three children, Kevin Runyan (Adrienne) of Silverdale, WA, Brian Runyan (Phyllis) of Monroe, Deana Date (Cary) of Waxhaw, two brothers, Raeford Starnes of Monroe and Mickey Starnes (Terry) of Peachland, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild and two more due in August, three step-children, Jennifer Prickett (George) of Sandy, UT, Ginger Shaffer (Keith) of Monroe, Scott Funderburk (Kris) of Monroe, seven step-grandchildren and eleven step-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends family Saturday July 21, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. She spent many years doing volunteer work at the Union Baptist Association. She also served as mission’s support director for WMU for several years and led the Hugo Disaster Relief Program for the U.B.A. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years in her home church. She loved serving God, spending time with her family and friends, and working in her yard and garden. Memorials may be made to Mt.
