Ms. Virginia Hammonds Brooks, 82, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014. Ms. Brooks was born in Union County, on March 27, 1931 to the late John Harrison Hammonds and Mary Bright Helms. She was a retired employee of Carolinas Medical System. Funeral services will be held Thursday February 6, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Gordon Funeral Chapel. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC, 28112. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. Ms. Brooks was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her loving husband, Douglas Brooks and a sister, Dot Reedy. Ms. Brooks is survived by her sons; William Lee “Sonny” Parker, Jr. (Mildred) of Wingate, Darryl Parker (Lisa) of Monroe, daughter; Debbie Williams of Monroe, brother; John Hammonds Jr. (Eleanor) of Monroe, sisters; Deane Parker (Jimmy) of Monroe, Jean Rushing of Monroe, Betty Smith (Gary) of Indian Trail, 3 step-children, 8 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
