Obituary

Wallace “Wally” Lloyd Schott, 87, of Stallings, NC, passed away at home on Monday, January 19, 2026. He was born in Westerville, Ohio, on February 8, 1938, son of the late Otho “Coke” Edmond Schott and Ruth Gantz Schott.

Wally is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Belva “Jean” Schott; a daughter, Kim Salisbury (Paul); a son, Mike Schott (CC); five grandchildren, Alexia, David, Betsy, Wally, and Grace; and one sister, Sarah “Sally” Davis (Bill). Wally was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Paul, and his parents.

Wally and Jean faithfully served with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. They arrived in Papua New Guinea in December 1973 and worked in Port Moresby, the Sepik region, and Ukarumpa until 1981. That year, they began a new adventure in a remote jungle location called Dana Bura in Indonesia. They served there until the summer of 1985 and then planted roots in Waxhaw, NC, at the JAARS Center. After six years in Waxhaw, they returned to Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea, in 1991, and then came back home to Waxhaw at the end of 1994. Wally and Jean continued serving at the JAARS Center until their retirement in 2004.

Those who knew Wally always said he was a “Jack of all Trades.” He was a mechanic and welder by trade, a small‑engine whisperer, an electrician when needed, and he dabbled in woodworking. He believed every tool had a purpose and every job deserved to be done right. Wally never left the house without a pocketknife “just in case.” But his true passion was teaching others what he knew. Wally taught countless people over the years—people who are now carrying on his knowledge and skills in all parts of the world. Wally’s legacy of service, skill, and faith will continue to live on through all who knew him.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He loved Jesus and faithfully served Him until the end. He lived out his faith through service, humility, and generosity. We celebrate that he is with Jesus and reunited with so many friends who went before him.

A memorial service will be held Thursday January 29th, 2:00pm, at Weddington Methodist Church, 13901 Providence Road, Weddington, NC 28104. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Wally’s memory to Wycliffe Bible Translators. www.wycliffe.org/donate
