William Wilson "Buddy" Broome

William Wilson (Buddy) Broome passed away peacefully on Monday, October 31, surrounded by family. Born January 23, 1940, in Union County, Buddy was one of two children born to the late Cyrus and Martha Broome.

Funeral services will be held 11:30AM Thursday, November 3, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, 732 Indian Trial Fairview Road, Indian Trail, NC 28079. The family will receive friends following the service in the sanctuary. There will be a private burial at Lakeland Memorial Park at a later date.

Buddy proudly served his country as a member of the US Army National Guard Artillery Division. A true outdoorsman, Buddy enjoyed early morning hunts with his son Todd and working in the yard with his daughter Melissa. He adored his two grandsons, Luke and Cole, and was always a spectator in the stands at baseball games and horse shows. An avid bird watcher, Buddy could mimic any bird’s call and often did…at home, in stores, at restaurants…

But his favorite way to spend a day was going on “adventures” with his wife of 58 years, Martha. Never knowing where they’d end up, they’d just get in the car and drive. These fourth-grade sweethearts were a testament to true love.

An original member of the Sidewinders Car Club in Monroe, Buddy loved drag racing in Pageland, SC in his early years and going to classic car shows when his racing days were behind him.

Buddy never met a stranger and could often be found in lengthy conversations and story telling about the good old days.

Left to cherish Buddy’s memory are his wife Martha, daughter Melissa, son Todd and wife Hollie, two grandsons Luke and Cole, sister Peggy Broome Strickland, brother-in-law Gordon Shannon and wife Bobbi. He also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews with fond memories of Uncle Buddy.
