William "Dub" Helms

William B. Dub Helms, Sr., 83, died Saturday, November 17, 2012. Mr. Helms was born in Union County, NC, March 6, 1929, son of the late Roy S. and Flora Pressley Helms. Dub was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the Masonic Lodge, an active member of Benton's Cross Roads Baptist Church, serving in the choir and as a deacon, and a Union County, NC automobile dealer for over sixty-seven years, first as owner of Helms Brothers Motor Company and secondly as owner of Helms Auto Sales, both family owned businesses. Mr. Helms was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-five years Nell Davis Helms, a brother Parker L. Helms and a sister Sadie H. Small. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Benton's Cross Roads Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, November 19, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. Dub is survived by two sons, Brad Helms and wife Rosemary of Matthews, NC and Bennett Helms and wife Joy of Monroe; sister Evelyn Lomax of Monroe, NC and four grandchildren Meredith Helms, Will Helms, Katie MacEachern and Taylor Helms.
