Willis "Bill" Walton

Dateline: Monroe, NC Mr. Willis (Bill) Wilson Walton, 86, of Monroe passed away Thursday morning, December 27, 2012 at Carolina Medical Center - Union, Monroe, NC. Mr. Walton was born April 15, 1926 in Union County, NC, a son of the late Mr. Clarke Willis Walton and the late Sarah Emma Wilson Walton. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Rebecca Plaxco, Martha Traynor and Mary Gainey and also two brothers, Clarence Walton and Jack Walton. Bill was a World War II veteran and a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served both as elder and deacon and was a member of the Men’s Bible Class. He retired from Monroe Builders Supply. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 29, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, Monroe, NC. The family will receive friends following the service. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lorraine Mitchum Walton; son, Charles Wilson Walton (Rachel); sister, Mrs. Sarah Walton Plyler of Vero Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Mrs. Sarah “Boots” Walton of Charlotte; brothers-in-law, Charles Cecil Mitchum (Teka) of Matthews, Dr. Kenneth E. Mitchum (Jean) of Pittsboro, NC, Dr. Gerald Mitchum (Frances) of Vlaanbeetaar, Mongolia and Larry Graham Mitchum (Mary) of Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren Lisa Lorraine Stiwinter (Chris), Steven Clarke Walton and Bryan Wilson Walton (Jessica) and four great-grandchildren. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, 302 East Windsor Street, Monroe, NC 28112.
