A much-loved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Wilton Evans “Sonny” Damon, Jr., 70, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Union County on Monday, July 27, 2015. He was born in Mecklenburg County on December 12, 1944, son of the late Wilton Evans Damon, Sr. and Louisa Wood Damon. Although born in Mecklenburg County, Sonny loved Monroe and everything about it. He was the owner of W.E. Damon and Associates and was previously co-owner of Carolina Appraisal Company for over 25 years. He served on the City of Monroe’s Board of Adjustments and Land Development Committee. He served on the Rolling Hills Country Club Board of Directors for many years and also governed as president. Sonny was a diehard Carolina Tarheel fan, loved Carolina Panther football, NASCAR racing and playing golf with his sons, Hal and Evans and his close knit group of friends. His sense of humor was both witty and priceless. Sonny was loved by all and never met a stranger. He had the ability to put others around him at ease and leave them with a smile. His love for his grandchildren was immeasurable, as they were the center of his life. Nothing made him smile brighter than his grandchildren sitting on his lap. Memories with Sonny will last a lifetime and he will be dearly missed.
